MARLBOROUGH - Mrs. Mary (Quinn) McTague, 91, died Saturday, July 18 at New Horizons in Marlborough where she has lived for the past seven years. She was the widow of Robert F. McTague of Worcester.
Mrs. McTague was born in Bozeman, Montana, where her father was on the faculty of Montana State College. When Mary was five, the Quinn parents, both natives of upstate New York, came back east. After her early schooling in Edgewater, NJ and Rockville Centre, Long Island, Miss Quinn graduated from the College of New Rochelle. With her degree in English, she worked in a series of jobs in the publishing and advertising fields. In 1958, at the age of 39 Miss Quinn married Robert McTague, a widower with five children, 5 to 12 years old. Soon after taking on her new role as wife and mother of this young family the McTagues moved to Rio de Janerio, Brazil where Mr. McTague took over management of a paint plant for Esso (now Exxon). During the fourteen years in Rio Mrs. McTague was active in a variety of volunteer work in the American Community including the Girl Scouts and the English speaking Catholic parochial school. In 1980 when Mr. McTague suffered a series of seizures that were diagnosed as a brain tumor the family returned to the States. Treated at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester and the affiliated nursing home Mr. McTague lived a pain filled year before his death in 1981. Until failing health brought her to the assisted-living facility at New Horizons, Mrs. McTague lived in Westborough where she did volunteer with the Worcester Library, the Westborough Senior Center and St. Luke Catholic Church. Mrs. McTague is survived by three sons, Robert Jr., John and retired Marine Colonel Mark McTague and two daughters, Rosemary and Maura. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a brother, John Quinn. Calling hours will be at the Britton-Summers Funeral Home, 4 Church St., Westborough on Monday, July 20, from 5 to 7 P.M. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, in St Luke the Evangelist Church, 70 West Main St., Westborough at 10:30 A.M.
